I've decided to share my DK shorties and Longies pattern with the world. I wrote it a few years ago and it's been through a few minor changes since then but it's very easy to do and it works.
It's great for beginner knitters as it's knitted flat (no scary double pins or kitchener grafting!) and being flat it means you can easily work cute intarsia designs or add embroidery to make an extra special pair of woollies.
You can download the pattern as a PDF file HERE. Please remember it is royalty free but not Copyright free. You may not distribute, copy or sell the pattern or use it to produce garments for sale.
I hope you enjoy it! Any comments or suggestions, good or bad gratefully received.

Just what i was looking for! Thanks, Clair :)
Hi Mrs Flowerpot.
I have been looking for a shorties pattern for ages and came across your blog via a google search.
Just a few questions:
What does DK/light worsted mean?
and what ply is the wool?
It's a beautiful pattern and I look forward to learning how to make it.
Thanks, mad_mim@hotmail.com
the pattern knits up great,i've tried it for both the longies & shorties in pure wool & merino & yes it does work when lanolised-very cute too!!!the only snag i came across with the pattern was that you have omitted to say when the 2nd marker should be placed on the needle-an experienced knitter would work this out but maybe not a beginner-hope this helps regards mandy
fab pattern, i've done 3 longies & 1 pair shorties in both pure wool & merino for my baby grandaughter & yes they do work once lanolised, very cute too!!!the only problem i did come across was that you didn't type on the pattern about the 2nd marker being placed on the needle,i know experienced knitters would work this out but perhaps not beginners-hope this helps. regards mandy
Question for you. In the longies section, it says:
Knit 6 rows garter stitch and
continue in stocking stitch (starting with a knit row) until work measures 5 (7, 9,
10) inches, ending with a purl row
I'm doing a small. Is this 5 inches from the beginning of the leg or 5 inches from the beginning of the stockinette stitch?
Thanks!
hi thystle, the work needs to be 5 inches from cast on not 5 inches from start of stocking stitch-hope this helps, regards mandy
Hi! I just wanted to let you (and anyone else who finds this page) know that I used this pattern for shorties and LOVE the way it fits my son! I blogged about it here:

Hi! Thanks so much for offering a longie pattern for free! I've been searching for one that was knit flat! However, I am a new knitter and am not really understanding some things. Right now I am confused by this:
Longies Only
Using 3.25 mm needles cast on 50 (58, 66, 74) sts. Knit 6 rows garter stitch and continue in stocking stitch (starting with a knit row) until work measures 5 (7, 9, 10) inches, ending with a purl row. Make a second leg in the same way.
I got the first part done (the 2 legs) but dont understand that next part. My email is mommyhills@gmail.com I'd love some help with this if you get time!
Shorties and Longies Gusset Shaping
Cast on 7 (8, 9, 10) sts. Knit 1st leg, cast on 12 (14, 16, 18) sts, knit 2nd leg, cast on 7 (8, 9, 10) sts. 126 (146, 166, 186) stitches.
I just found this pattern and actually have the same question as Kristin. I'm assuming that the legs are not bound off and are knit onto the gusset? I'm not a very experienced knitter and am excited to have found some longies that are knitted flat. Hopefully someone can shed some light almost 3 years after the last comment was made...
the link is broken and takes me to a 404 error page. would love to use the pattern if i can. thanks.
I have the same problem as Keaton. The download doesn't work. Can you please look at it and see if you can fix it? These oants are so cute, I would love to make a pair for our granddaughter. Thank you! =)
I was not able to open the pattern either. I wanted to see Mrs. Flowerpots revisions. I am so glad I found a print that I had from 3 years ago when I made this soaker several times for my newborn grandson. I had my notes written on it yet. It was grandsons favorite soaker pants. Mom said these were the pants he picked out of the dresser every time! He loved them. He is going to have twin siblings soon, so I wanted to make a few more.
I would still like to see the revisions though......
Sorry, I've been having a few problems with my website. The pattern should be up and working now :)

I to am super stuck on this bit!!! so sad and I am trying so hard with my knitting but this has baffled me :( please help!
Claire, could you clarify "knit 10" from the gusset for me please. Is this measured from the start or the finish of the gusset shaping? Thanks, Barbara Rumsey.
hi, is it possible to knit these with worsted wool? thanks
Charity Worker - This pattern is for double knit wool. If you use worsted they will turn out larger, depending on your gauge.
